Un d\u00e9fi majeur dans la cr\u00e9ation de th\u00e9rapies biomat\u00e9rielles pour r\u00e9parer le cartilage articulaire endommag\u00e9 est de faire correspondre les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s m\u00e9caniques de ce tissu hautement sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9.  Le cartilage est tr\u00e8s r\u00e9sistant, r\u00e9sistant \u00e0 la rupture sous l&rsquo;effet de la force, mais \u00e9galement tr\u00e8s rigide, ce qui signifie qu&rsquo;il r\u00e9siste \u00e0 la flexion ou \u00e0 la d\u00e9formation.  \u00c0 ce jour, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 difficile de cr\u00e9er des biomat\u00e9riaux qui correspondent \u00e0 ces propri\u00e9t\u00e9s, et des mat\u00e9riaux incompatibles ont tendance \u00e0 produire une cicatrisation du cartilage de mauvaise qualit\u00e9.  Ces chercheurs ont examin\u00e9 la structure du cartilage natif, qui contient du collag\u00e8ne et des prot\u00e9oglycanes enchev\u00eatr\u00e9s, comme source d&rsquo;inspiration pour un nouveau biomat\u00e9riau.  Leur hydrogel prot\u00e9ique contient des cha\u00eenes de prot\u00e9ines enchev\u00eatr\u00e9es, ce qui permet d&rsquo;obtenir un mat\u00e9riau r\u00e9sistant et rigide, et s&rsquo;est r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 prometteur pour la gu\u00e9rison du cartilage articulaire endommag\u00e9 chez les animaux.<\/p>\n<p>Le cartilage articulaire est facilement endommag\u00e9 et moins facilement r\u00e9par\u00e9.  Ce tissu sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 tapisse nos articulations de la hanche et du genou et fournit une surface glissante et lisse o\u00f9 ces os interagissent.  Comme il s&rsquo;use beaucoup au cours des activit\u00e9s quotidiennes, il est \u00e0 la fois r\u00e9sistant et rigide, aidant ce tissu dynamique \u00e0 remplir son r\u00f4le tout au long de notre vie.  Cependant, lorsque le cartilage articulaire est endommag\u00e9, il a un potentiel de gu\u00e9rison tr\u00e8s limit\u00e9, ce qui a conduit les chercheurs \u00e0 se tourner vers les biomat\u00e9riaux dans le but de cr\u00e9er des \u00e9chafaudages implantables qui peuvent permettre la r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ration du cartilage.<\/p>\n<p>Cr\u00e9er un mat\u00e9riau \u00e0 la fois r\u00e9sistant et rigide n&rsquo;est pas aussi simple qu&rsquo;il y para\u00eet.  La rigidit\u00e9 implique qu&rsquo;un mat\u00e9riau peut r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la d\u00e9formation, mais de nombreux mat\u00e9riaux rigides sont \u00e9galement cassants.  La t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 implique qu&rsquo;un mat\u00e9riau peut r\u00e9sister \u00e0 la rupture ou \u00e0 la d\u00e9chirure, mais ces mat\u00e9riaux peuvent \u00eatre trop mous et spongieux pour \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s comme alternative au cartilage.  Atteindre le niveau appropri\u00e9 de t\u00e9nacit\u00e9 et de rigidit\u00e9 dans de telles constructions, tout en utilisant des mat\u00e9riaux biocompatibles et biod\u00e9gradables, est une t\u00e2che difficile.<!-- ASYNC UAT M - 300x250(t,r) - --><\/p>\n<p><!-- END ASYNC UAT M - 300x250(t,r) --><\/p>\n<p>Cependant, il est important de bien ma\u00eetriser ces facteurs m\u00e9caniques.  Dans un tissu soumis \u00e0 des contraintes m\u00e9caniques fr\u00e9quentes, l&rsquo;obtention des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s m\u00e9caniques correctes dans les implants r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ratifs produira des dividendes dans l&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration de la cicatrisation des tissus.  L&rsquo;incapacit\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des mat\u00e9riaux appropri\u00e9s est un facteur important dans le manque d&rsquo;implants de cartilage efficaces \u00e0 ce jour.
